IMPORTANT NOTE: What should my health care professional
know before I take azithromycin? They need to know if you have
any of these conditions:; kidney disease; liver disease;
pneumonia; stomach problems (especially colitis); other chronic
illness; an unusual or allergic reaction to azithromycin, other
macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), foods, dyes, or
preservatives; breast-feeding
AZITHROMYCIN (Zithromax? - ORAL
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Zithromax
USES: Azithromycin also treats sexually transmitted
vaginal or urinary tract infections caused by chlamydia. It will
not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.
HOW TO USE: Take azithromycin TABLETS by mouth. Follow
the directions on the prescription label. Swallow tablets whole
with a full glass of water. Azithromycin tablets can be taken
with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do
not take your medicine more often than directed. Finish the full
course prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional
even if you think your condition is better. Do not stop taking
except on your prescriber's advice.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, stomach upset, trouble sleeping,
headache, or cold symptoms may occur. If these persist or
worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Unlikely but report
promptly: dizziness, mental/mood changes, fast heartbeat, fever.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but
very serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat.
Although drowsiness is very uncommon at usual doses under normal
circumstances, be aware that drowsiness may occur and may effect
the ability to perfom tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving).
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your
doctor or pharmacist.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: antacids; astemizole; digoxin;
dihydroergotamine; ergotamine; magnesium salts; terfenadine;
triazolam; warfarin Tell your prescriber or health care
professional about all other medicines you are taking, including
non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal
products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional
if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol,
if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the
way your medicine works. Check with your health care
professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines..
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local
poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of
overdose may include irregular or unusually slow or fast
heartbeat, unusual nervousness or excitement, rapid breathing,
confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.
NOTES: Keep out of the sun, or wear protective clothing
outdoors and use a sunscreen. Do not use sun lamps or sun
tanning beds or booths.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you
can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that
dose. Do not take double or extra doses. There should be an
interval of at least 12 hours between doses.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77
degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture. |

| Before taking Zithromax, tell your doctor if you have liver
disease. You may not be able to take Zithromax, or you may

| Zithromax is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that
it is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Do not take this
medication without first talking to your doctor if you are
pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. |

| It is not known whether Zithromax passes into breast milk. Do
not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if
you are breast-feeding a baby. |
How should I take Zithromax?

| Take Zithromax exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do

or doctor to explain them to you. |

| Take each tablet or capsule with a full glass (8 ounces) of
water. |

| Take the Zithromax capsules and suspension on an empty
stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. |

Zithromax with a dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular
table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask

| To take the Zithromax (Zithromax)1 gram oral suspension single
dose packet: |

| The entire contents of the packet should be mixed thoroughly
with two ounces (approximately 60 mL) of water. Drink the entire
contents immediately. |

complete consumption of dosage. |

other than 1 gram of Zithromax. This packet is not for use by

What happens if I overdose?

What should I avoid while taking Zithromax?

What are the possible side effects of Zithromax?
